About my writing background

I have been writing since I was six years old, when I sat at our dining room table for the whole of one long afternoon writing in pencil in a lined notebook a story in four chapters entitled 'Penny and Peggy go to the seaside.' By the time we moved house I had a whole cupboard full of 'beginnings' but I wasn't as good at finishing my stories. Over the years I have written several full length novels, including two completed crime stories and a historical novel set during the English Civil War, several children's stories set in the area around Edinburgh, and an assortment of children's plays and pantomime scripts, mostly written in collaboration with my son Alex.

About NaNoWriMo

I've now taken part successfully in National Novel Writing Month three times, managing to write a 50,000 word novel from scratch during the month of November in 2006, 2007 and 2008. These novels are entitled 'Storm Centre' (the working title was 'Independence'), 'Community' and 'A Place of Conflict'. The process of editing is under way!
I've now almost completed a novel I've been working on entitled 'The Tree Museum'.
