Major news! Falkirk Wheel opens! Read about it here!

The Queen officially opens the Falkirk Wheel boatlift
Welcome to my canal pages. I have now updated the photo archive to reflect the restoration work that has been carried out on the canals. The Union Canal is quite well covered with up-to-date photos showing the restored obstructions; I don't have so many new photos of the Forth and Clyde yet, but I have updated the captions and hope to add some new pictures in the new year (2002).
This site is intended to provide information on the four Scottish lowland canals (Union, Forth & Clyde, Monkland and Paisley). Here you will find news, maps, links to related sites, a large collection of photographs of the canals and some other miscellaneous stuff.
Follow the links below to get into the different areas of the site and learn more about the fascinating, yet often ignored canals of central Scotland. If you have any questions about the lowland canals, comments about the site, or anything you'd like to contribute to the site, please e-mail me at: james@scottish-canals.co.uk. The guestbook can only be read and not signed at the moment; Cable Internet have withdrawn the facility for running CGI scripts on their web space. I hope to have it working again soon when I find an alternative solution.
Finally, for more about myself, check out my new personal website. There's not much there yet, just some non-canal related photos and things.

Online Guide
My online guide to the four lowland canals. This is the place to go for hard information, ranging from a brief history of the canals to tips on how to reach them using today's public transport. Updated!

Photos
A selection of photos of the Scottish lowland canals, and a few of other British canals, organised into sections. Currently there are about 160 online.

Miscellaneous
Anything that wouldn't fit into any of the other categories is in here. At
the moment it contains a guestbook, a glossary of any terms used on this site
that might confuse those new to the world of waterways, a list of recommended
books and a few stories I wrote a while ago about my first three walks on the
Forth and Clyde Canal.

Links
A collection of links to other sites I like: some other canal sites, my
family's various web pages and some Simpsons links that I had nowhere else to
put :)

Thanks goes to Martin Sach, George Pearson and the Bridge Inn for adding links to my site, to Dr Carl Moores for permission to use his photographs, to Steve Goodsell for letting me know BW's new address and to everyone who's spread the word about this site on the news groups.
