Cleveden Road Obstruction

The Cleveden Road bridge was replaced by a small Armco culvert after the canal closed in the 1960s. With the advent of the Millennium Link project, this was one of the first obstructions to be tackled. The photos below show the work that has been going on at Cleveden Road.

The old Cleveden Road culvert, photographed from the east side in 1997. Headroom is only about 4 feet, not enough for any sizeable boats.

The site from the west on 12/7/99, when work had been underway for a few months. In among all the scapholding, a new bridge is taking shape, with the culvert just to the east still carrying road traffic.

The new bridge from the west side on 20/3/2000. The structure is by now nearly complete, but the canal is still dry and the road is restricted to one lane.

The bridge was completed in summer 2000. I will post a photo as soon as I get one.
