The 2007 Christmas show was based partly on 'The Nutcracker' and partly on the tale of 'The Princess and the Pea'. On close inspection neither plot turned out to be substantial enough to form a whole storyline on its own, so we did what we sometimes can't resist doing, and combined the two. The show took place on the 14th and 15th of December, to the sound of Tchaikowsky's music and of course the usual thunderous applause. |

Welcome to the 2006 Christmas Show (too posh to be a pantomime) Great script only surpassed by the brilliant acting! Hardly any scenery to speak of! 'Just my kind of show'(stage manager). The CYC Centre youth drama group Christmas show 2006 took place on the 14th, 15th and 16th December. Based very closely on the novel by Charles Dickens, it did not resort to using puppets or actors from Star Trek, but instead gave Jacob Marley the task of playing the narrator and stage manager of the ghostly performance. The Cratchit scenes were truly touching, the Fezziwigs' party was the highlight of the social scene. (script to follow) |

A MIDSUMMER NIGHTMARE or THE SUMMER SHOW (AAARGH!) ***postponed until the twelfth of never (yes, the curse of the summer show strikes again)*** This space was reserved for news of the 2006 summer show - cue panic and despair among anyone with a good memory. Yes, we did try again, having learned nothing from past fiascos....
So much for me saying, way back at the beginning, 'this project has got off to a good start'. Ha! |

THE 2005 PANTOMIME UNVEILED! The 2005 pantomime was entitled..... (pause for drum roll) 'Crumpelstiltskin and Fringlespot' Based on the traditional fairy tale 'Rumpelstiltskin' this was performed at Corstorphine Youth and Community Centre on the 16th and 17th of December 2005. Written in characteristic Perry style it is (we fondly imagine) a complex and sometimes dark tale of plots to take over the world, natural disaster, dysfunctional families and swivelling stage sets (the last of these didn't really achieve its full potential, but to an extent the volcanic eruption at the end of the show compensated for this). |

Goldilocks and the Magic Porridge As readers of my pantomime web log will know, the 2004 pantomime, 'Goldilocks and the Magic Porridge', performed on the 17th and 18th of December at Corstorphine Youth and Community Centre, was very successful... Alex and Sheila Perry's original script turned several well known stories on their heads... Why was Arabella Pig disappointed by the decor in her straw house? And how did the troll escape from jail? And most importantly, why did Prince Invincible spend all his time away fighting dragons and none of it fighting baddies on his doorstep? For the answers to these and other questions that you didn't even know you should be asking, read the full script for the show. Click here for the poster and here for details of the stick and straw houses. |

The 2003 pantomime 'Treasure Island - Reloaded' saw an incredible cast of characters, including scurvy old sea-dog Boxer Shorts Gold and marooned sailor Ken Rifle, take the stage for a swashbuckling adventure. Some unfortunates were caught by King Neptune and put in the whale jail! And everyone had to look out for the loan sharks Mark and Clark. World premiere at Corstorphine Youth and Community Centre on Thursday, 11th December 2003 |

Click here for a short report on Sleeping Beauty and the Beast, the year 2002 pantomime (full script and songs still to be added). In the mean-time, why not have a look at the original, sparkling script for the summer 2002 show 'Magic, Murder and Mayhem', first performed in June 2002. Who could forget the satirical song 'Just Say No to Frog Spells' and the haunting melody 'Only My Dreams Stay the Same'? |
