Year 2001 Pantomime!
Another triumph for the script-writing skills of Alex and Sheila! The script for 'Snow White and the Seven Martians' turned out to be almost entirely actor-proof.
The main plot started out as the story of the beautiful Snow White (the kind of girl who has a bland signature tune about squirrels and rabbits waiting 'round the next corner') and her wicked stepmother, who is determined to be the 'fairest of them all', though her magic mirror keeps telling her she isn't:
'Mirror, mirror on the wall - who is the fairest of them all?
Well it isn't you, you ugly old bat - your nose is warty and you're much too fat'

Before long, however the sub-plot begins to take over, and the real story of this year's pantomime turns out to be the quest by the mad scientist and space commander Callisto for world domination which they hope to attain by finding the mysterious Lost Thingy of Whatshisname. The mad scientist sends small furry animals into space to find it for him, while Callisto relies heavily on the help of the Seven Martians - they spend their days searching for it in the mines. For most of the second act, Snow White dozes on the surface of Mars, oblivious to the sub-plots going on around her.

The variety of sets and scenery required presented a challenge to the set design team, but they rose to the occasion with a hand-crafted spaceship, a little house for the Martians and a very red scene in the mines of Mars.
